psonitPut Solar on it!

On October 10th, 2010, people all over the world will be joining a global work party in what could be the biggest day of climate action ever.
More than a thousand events are planned: to put up solar panels, install wind turbines, plant urban gardens, and take other action to create a green energy future.

We're teaming up with our friends at 350 and 10:10 to ask that world leaders lead by installing solar panels on their own rooftops and on their government buildings.

Add your voice here and demand our politicians roll up their own sleeves with us. If you want to join or start your own work party on October 10th, sign up here.

SM3320

In-Panel Electronics Enable Module and Junction Box Manufacturers to Integrate Award-Winning Power Optimizer Technology

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – June 1, 2010 – National Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:NSM), a leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog semiconductors, today introduced the solar industry’s first in-panel SolarMagic™ chipset, marking the advent of a new category of solar systems: “smart panels.”

Whereas solar panels today are prone to underperform due to conditions such as age, mismatch and shade, smart panels incorporate advanced electronics to harvest the maximum energy from a solar system.  National and its partners will demonstrate SolarMagic smart panels at Intersolar Europe in Munich, Germany, June 9-11, 2010.  Visit National Semiconductor in Hall B5, Booth #429.

The SM3320 SolarMagic smart panel chipset is the most recent addition to National’s award-winning SolarMagic product line and provides junction box and module manufacturers with the “smarts” to ensure the highest efficiency and return on investment for solar system owners.  By coupling more energy production with a lower balance of systems cost, the SM3320 provides solar system owners a high-performance solution at the lowest cost per kilowatt-hour.

“By introducing the first in-panel smart electronics to the solar market, we are keeping with a five decades long tradition of developing the category-defining products that shape an industry," said Mike Polacek, senior vice president of National’s Key Market Segments Group.  "National Semiconductor has been embedded in the solar industry since its inception.  Already, our power management electronics are used in nearly two-thirds of the inverter and junction box market and we currently have more than 100 MW of solar systems under SolarMagic monitoring and management.  The development of smart panels builds on what National does best – smart power management electronics – to enable higher efficiency, more robust solar systems."

medium-Circle-Plus-Transp-Grey-CMYKPlugwise, a Dutch company, developing energy management systems since 2006, is proud of its unique invention: a wireless energy management system allowing domestic and commercial users to gain detailed understanding of their energy consumption where they see it: at the plug on the wall.

Plugwise has developed a smart plug based on innovative Dutch network technology. The plug is easily placed between the outlet and the plug of the appliance. The plug measures the energy consumption and transmits the data to the PC wirelessly. The PC-software allows insight in the exact energy consumption, the Co2 emission and the costs, in one glance. For each individual appliance, outlet and room.

Because there are a lot of solarinverters on the market that has no readout possibility via a port this device brings the solution.
This plug is monitored with the PlugWise Source software and stores the results every hour.

A new version of the mySolarApp is specilally designed for this device. So every inverter can be monitored now!

On this beta testpage test.mysolarlog.com you can find the results from the webpages builded around the PlugWise data.

Only one Circle plug is monitored be now but we are planning to interfacing more.

In the new mySolarApp version we added a diagnostic mode to make a data capture every minute for a max duration of four hours. In the capture we pull out the battery voltages, charger currents and panel currents. This data is presented in a graph where you can switch on or off the items that you want to study.

We support now 4 Inverters and 4 chargers (all connected to the Outback Mate).

Send the log file (xml formatted) to your installer to ask for advice. The installer can download the free Viewer to see the same graphs as the mySolarApp program provides to you.

Now you are able to see, locally, graphs for daily and last 10 days generated kwh and battery voltages.

Below a sample graph:

batt1

We also extended the problem reporting routine that informs you about how your system is performing.

A sample e-mail message looks like:

User: aren Local time: 29-12-2008 21:31:40
ACinput is lost Voltage ACin FX2 : 64 V

or

User: bbbrown Local time: 12/29/2008 2:31:38 AM
FX1 Warning Mode: Temp sensor failed

The FX needs to be checked by a qualified repair technician. Note that the AirTemp, FETtemp And CapTemp warnings listed in the Mate’s STATUS/FX/WARN menu can help with troubleshooting.
